MOBIL OPTS FOR $200M OF 9370s, PS/2s

By CBR Staff Writer

Mobil Corp has picked the IBM 9370 over offerings from Data General Corp and resident office systems supplier Wang Laboratories Inc as its standard departmental processor, claims Electronic News. Mobil declined to confirm that IBM has won the order, but the paper insists that the contract, thought to be worth $200m over five years, and to involve some 500 9370s, and large numbers of Personal System/2s, for installation at 250 locations worldwide, is in the bag for IBM. IBM’s original bid of System/36 was rejected by Mobil.
