MITSUI & CO FORMS A SPIN-OFF COMPANY FOR PCS AND PRINTERS

Mitsui & Co, Mitsui Bussan in Japanese, has formed a spin-off development and marketing company for personal computers and printers; president of the new Bussan Digital is the 35-year-old head of the Mitsui Electronics Development Group, Tetsuo Tsuchiya: he previously worked on development of the AX series of IBM AT-compatible Japanese machines, and on a Japanese word processor, and now plans to create a company of young engineers, all with between four and six years’ experience; the main products of the new company will be the Var-Mate AX machine and the Laser Mega laser printer, bought OEM, with software developed in-house; sales start next spring; the Year One target is $16m sales.
