MITSUBISHI TO OEM SEAGATE’S MAGNETO OPTICAL DRIVE

By CBR Staff Writer

Mitsubishi Chemical Corp has signed an OEM deal to manufacture storage products using Seagate Software’s ‘auto-run’ technology for magneto-optical disks. The first of these is called Autoprotect. The product automatically makes a backup of the user’s system when a disc is inserted into the magneto-optical drive. Autoprotect uses software compression techniques so that up to 1.3Gb of data can be backed up onto a disk. AsiaBizTech reports that Autoprotect, which runs on Microsoft Corp’s Windows 95 and 98, is initially only being aimed at the Japanese market.
