MITSUBISHI SETS COMEBACK IN TOP-END MAINFRAME MARKET

By CBR Staff Writer

Reports from Japan say that Mitsubishi Electric has at last overcome its embarrassment at the NipSting IBM secrets theft fiasco, and is again planning to enter the top-end mainframe market with an IBM 3090-class machine – but it is not clear whether it will be IBM-compatible as originally planned. Development has been completed, and the machine will be launched this year. Mitsubishi originally developed the Cosmos series of mainframes with Oki Electric from Xerox Sigma licences.
