Sounds more like cutting off its nose to spite its face than hara kiri: according to Newsbytes Japan, Mitsubishi Electronics has responded to the worldwide shortage of memory chips by scaling back its own production and will instead buy from Texas Instruments, Intel, National Semiconductor, and Thomson – and says that it has decided to sacrifice itself in order to reduce Japan-ES semiconductor friction.
