Mitsubishi International Corp, responding to a threat of legal action from AT&T Co over $430,000 in unpaid phone bills, has launched a suit of its own in New York against AT&T complaining that the company did not warn of the potential for security breaches on its System 85 PABX: the PABX had a remote access feature that enabled authorised employees to charge calls to the company from anywhere in the US by dialling a security access code; Mitsubishi reckons that 1m calls were made by hackers using the system and says that the pattern of these illegal calls was so different from its legitimate calls that AT&T should have recognised that something was going very wrong.
