MITSUBISHI PUSHES THE 120MB COMPAQ FLOPPY

By CBR Staff Writer

The Electronic Device Group of Mitsubishi Electronics America Inc in Sunnyvale claims to be seeing rapidly increasing interest from personal computer manufacturers in the LS-120 120Mb floppy disk technology and reports that Mitsubishi Electric Corp is now capable of supplying up to 500,000 LS-120 drives per month to the OEM market. Mitsubishi Electric has had the drives in volume production at its Koriyama, Japan plant since October, and in high volume since earlier this month at its Bangkok, Thailand facility. The intention is that the 3.5 LS120 specification should replace the 1.44Mb floppy disk drive standard.
