MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC INTRODUCES LAN BASED ON FIBRE DISTRIBUTED DATA INTERFACE

Mitsubishi Electric Corp has introduced a local area network based on the international Fibre Distributed Data Interface standard: the Melnet R100 includes closed loop network support, a self-learning function, and various fault-tolerance features: maximum transmission speed is 100Mbps, maximum number of nodes is 128, maximum diameter of the ring is 60 miles and interfaces supported include CSMA/CD, token bus and Token Ring; price for an implemented network is some $85,000, and the firm hopes to sell 10 in the first year.
