Mitsubishi Electric is installing an in-house network called Mind that will interconnect 154 subsidiaries and affiliates in 91 locations: the services to be offered on the network will initially include facsimile store and forward and circuit switching, but in April a packet switching service and videoconferencing facilities will be added; Mitsubishi looks to finish work on the network by 1989, and it will then connect 250 access points, 26,000 telephones and facsimile machines, 10,000 computers and terminals, 50 videoconferencing centres and 50 local area networks; it is based on the Mitsubishi’s MNA Mitsubishi Network Architecture, which is claimed to be compatible with IBM’s SNA.
