Carrollton, Texas-based newcomer Mitek OpenConnect Systems has gone for NCR Corp’s Tower series of Unix supermicros to be the controllers for its optical disk Digital On-Line Archival and Retrieval System, Dolars, awarding the Daytoner a contract expected to be worth $12m over two years. The Archival and Retrieval System is designed as an alternative to microfilm for large financial institutions that manage vast amounts of documentation. The system uses Mitek’s SNA communication products so that it can be used in an existing IBM SNA network. Data is automatically downloaded, compressed, indexed and archived, and users can directly access records from SNA-connected terminals. The NCR Tower runs the Dolars application software and controls the optical jukebox. NCR will market the Towers with the Dolars application; no details of prices were given.
