With an initial value of $17.7 million, the contract will see Misys Healthcare Systems supplying seven hospital sites with a suite of industry-leading hospital systems, including the Misys Laboratory information system and Misys Clinical Event Manager, a clinical alerting and decision support system. Misys Healthcare Systems, together with the Department of Health Services, will implement these systems to create a single, streamlined enterprise-wide laboratory information system, anatomic pathology and comprehensive clinical alerting system across all DHS facilities.

Misys Chairman, Kevin Lomax, commented: We are pleased that the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services has chosen Misys as their enterprise-wide laboratory information systems provider. The medical need for more efficient delivery systems, coupled with government and industry initiatives to improve patient care, means that hospitals and physicians across the United States will have to make ongoing investments in their systems infrastructure over the next few years. We believe they will want to partner with companies, like Misys, which have the necessary reach and resources to help them implement their IT strategies.

Misys is also pleased to announce that it is today launching Misys Healthcare Systems. Misys Healthcare Systems is the convergence of three market leading firms – Medic, HCIS and Sunquest. In revenue terms, the new business is one of the top five healthcare IT companies in the United States.

The company’s three business units will build on extensive experience in their respective market segments:

Physician Systems – providing solutions for practice management, electronic medical records, e-commerce and mobile applications

Hospital Systems – providing solutions for laboratory, pharmacy, radiology and clinics

Homecare Systems – providing software for large and small homecare companies

The new business will be managed by Tom Skelton, currently CEO Medic Computer Systems Inc, and will employ approximately 2,500 people across the United States.

While Misys Healthcare Systems is an exciting new company in the marketplace, our philosophy will not change, said Tom Skelton, CEO Misys Healthcare Systems. Our three units will continue to deliver the solutions and services that our customers have come to expect – those that free healthcare professionals to focus on their patients’ health, not their IT systems.

Misys Healthcare Systems will serve a well-established customer base with 85,000 physicians, 1,200 hospitals, 850 homecare providers and hundreds of laboratories, clinics, managed services organisations and other related organisations using Misys products and services.

This announcement follows the recent creation of Misys International Banking Systems, Misys Asset Management Systems and Misys Securities Trading Systems.

Kevin Lomax added: The creation of Misys Healthcare Systems is another substantial step in our drive to establish the Misys brand on a global footing. There is considerable advantage to be gained from leveraging more from the Misys name and increasing the clarity of our business activities for all of our customers.
