MINISTRY OF DEFENCE CLAIMS ROYALTIES ON LCDs

Those lap-top computer users who are enjoying the much better legibility of liquid crystal displays using the new supertwist technology have researchers at the UK Royal Signals & Radar Establishment to thank – they invented the technique and took out patents on it in 1984 – and now the Ministry of Defence is trying to collect: the Ministry has now written to the two Japanese manufacturers making the displays pointing out that they owe UK Ltd substantial royalties on the LCDs.
