A survey conducted by Dataquest in conjunction with the Wall Street Journal says French personal computer sales were up 21% in the fourth quarter 1995 with Belgian sales rocketing to 36%. Compaq Computer Corp continued to rule Europe with 13% of the market, up from 12.6% a year ago. IBM Corp may have sorted its inventory and product line problems in the US, but it still has it all to do in Europe as its share fell to 9.4% from 12% while Apple Computer Inc fell to 6.8% from 6.9%. Star performer was Hewlett-Packard Co, which jumped into fourth place with 5.1%, up from 3.8%. Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG roared to 4.5%, up from from 3.3%; Packard Bell Electronics Inc took 4.1%, up from 3.1%; Dell Computer Corp took 3.6%, up from 2.6%, but Escom Computer Vertriebs GmbH saw its market share fall to 3.2% from 4% one year ago.
