The Argentine unit of IBM Corp, which is being probed for alleged involvement in a bribery scheme (CI No 2,733) has challenged a report saying it overcharged in a major state contract and protests that it discovered conceptual flaws and gross mistakes in the experts’ report made at the request of Judge Adolfo Bagnasco. Judge Bagnasco ordered a report to value a 1993 project to upgrade computers at the state-owned Banco Nacion as part of his investigations into allegations that IBM paid bribes to win the contract. The report concluded that the real value of the project was only $139m instead of the $249m charged by IBM. IBM says the report errs by up to 200% in its valuation of key components in the project.
