Loral Corp reports that a jury in the US District Court in New York has decided that Sony Corp infringed Loral’s charge-coupled device video camera patents. It said the infringement case, which it filed way back in 1991, applied to nearly all of Sony’s camcorders sold in the US between February 1989 and January 1993. Damages were to be assessed by a separate jury panel in a trial to be held later this year or in 1997, it added. Loral’s suit against Sony, as well as other camcorder manufacturers and sellers, is pending in the court. The patent infringement rights and the rights to damages will be transferred to Loral Space & Communications Ltd as part of the Lockheed Martin Corp acquisition of most of Loral.
