Montreal, Canada-based cable television operator, Le Groupe Videotron Ltee, will offer a high-speed Internet connection service for home personal computers subject to rate approvals by the Canadian Radio-television Communications Commission. It says modem capacity and its wide bandwidth networks will enable subscribers to receive, in a few seconds, information that would take almost an hour over telephone lines. The service will initially be offered in regions where Videotron has modernized its network and made it bi-directional and will advance as modernization progresses. The extension to residential customers is in line with its recent plan to sell its UK holdings and concentrate its resources on the core Canadian market. It launched an Internet service for business users at the end of last year.
