Microsoft Corp is under investigation by the US Justice Department again, this time over its bundling of its Internet Information Server with the Windows NT Server operating system software, Infoworld reports: the practice may be anti-competitive because customers that buy NT get a free copy of the Web server and so do not have to buy a separate Web server from another vendor, say critics; the Internet Factory Inc filed the request for an investigation into Microsoft’s practices with the Justice Department, and claims that Microsoft has engaged in two unfair practices – subsidising the cost of server software with operating system sales, and the fact that it can rely on in-house information about the Windows NT operating system, including unannounced development plans, to gain an advantage over others developing for the system.
