Minecraft developer Mojang has launched an open beta version of its latest game Scrolls.
The new game involves a battle between two players, who fight against each other using heroes, artefacts and spells from a virtual deck of cards.
According to the Swedish game maker, those who purchase the beta version (which would cost $20), can avail a discount and future updates for free.
Reports reveal that Mojang is only the latest firm to develop and launch a battle game based around a deck of cards, while in 2013 it has to face competition with Blizzard, which is planning to launch a card-based battle game known as Hearthstone.
During the development of Scrolls, Mojang had to defend itself against a legal case by developer Bethesda, which develops the Elder Scrolls series of games, demanding Mojang to modify the name as two games with the same name would confuse users.
Later the two firms resolved the issue, which allowed Mojang to keep the name, provided it never became a competitor to the Elder Scrolls.
Mojang has sold about 17 million copies of its Minecraft game, including versions for PCs, the Xbox console and phones and tablets.
