MINDSPRING SNAPS UP MPATH’S DIAL-UP CUSTOMER BASE

By CBR Staff Writer

Acquisitive internet service provider (ISP) MindSpring Enterprises Inc has increased consolidation in the ISP business further by acquiring the dial-up subscribers of Mpath Interactive Inc’s WebBullet internet service. Mpath only set up the service because its game-playing customers complained that they could not get a reliable-enough connection to the net to play the multi- user games the company offers. Now reliable connections are fairly widespread, Mpath has chosen to divest itself of the subscribers to concentrate on its core business. Atlanta-based MindSpring would not disclose how much was paid or how many people are transferring. It says customers have the choice whether or not to take the service.
