In one of the more Zen-like press releases since Amazon.com Inc said Oh, (CI No 3,534), MindSpring Enterprises Inc has reported that it is in discussions regarding possible business combinations. The Atlanta, Georgia-based internet service provider went on to explain: The Company is considering the possible combinations and other alternatives. The Company does not intend to comment further unless these or other discussions result in a definitive agreement. Ah. Good thing we’ve got that cleared up. Reuters was as mystified as anyone else by the enigmatic statement, but noted that MindSpring’s stock price jumped in its wake. With CMGI rumored to be acquiring Altavista and Gateway reportedly in talks to buy Earthlink, maybe MindSpring felt left out and wanted a takeover rumor of its own.
