Ambitious internet service provider Mindspring Enterprises Inc has picked up another set of Internet subscribers from five small US internet service providers, bringing its total up to 14 this year. The latest five, bringing MindSpring a total of 8,000 new subscribers, are Ohio-based Megalinx Communications Inc, Texas-based Tabnet Internet Inc, California-based Flamingo Communications Inc, and two Maryland-based companies, NetBiz Inc and MIWorld Inc. The customers will be transferred to MindSpring in October, and will be able to access Mindspring through local area dial-up numbers. Mindspring has been picking up customers from those Internet service providers who’ve given up the struggle in an increasingly crowded market, who are either selling their businesses or changing direction. The earlier deals netted 5,500 new subscribers. Atlanta, Georgia-based MindSpring says it will continue to follow the strategy, as a cost-effective way of getting new customers. It wouldn’t reveal the financial details of the deals.
