Mimer Software, a division of Real Time Solutions Ltd, Milton Keynes, is running beta tests on its transaction processing implementation of its own relational database and fourth generation tools in a bid to increase the power of ICL VME mainframes: the tools, due for release by April this year, feature the retention of positions in results sets during screen dialogues, facilities for transactions to be continued over screen dialogues, and fully integrated recovery, enabling screen dialogues to be resumed after machine failure to guarantee database consistency; the ICL VME Mimer transaction processing system can support terminal populations of 100 to 10,000 running on databases of unlimited size, and is claimed to alleviate common bottlenecks such as transaction management, long data access paths and high disk drive input-output activity.
