Folks that spend a great deal of time talking to Sun Microsystems Inc users claim that only 5% of them have actually made the great migration to Solaris 2.X. They ascribe the reluctance to migrate to continued concerns over the stability of the operating system and the availability of robust versions of their applications on the thing. Notably, they claim, the big users such as oil companies, software developers, semiconductor houses, automobile makers and financials types, have not taken the plunge. Although Sun may have a sliver of its base on 2.x, its mainstream user base is still using SunOS 4.1.3.
