With the UK Office of Telecommunications continuing to cut away at British Telecom’s monopoly, Midland Bank Plc is relaunching its internal telecommunications network, which it claims to be among the most advanced private networks in the country, this month. The bank currently sells data transmission services and, according to the Financial Times is hoping to increase this figure by 300% annually. Midland is said to be considering competing with British Telecommunications Plc in offering telecommunications services; it claims to operate the second largest packet switching network in the country. Midland’s network covers the bank’s Thomas Cook travel agency and Forward Trust finance house, as well as the parent’s retail banking branches.
