Ericsson Saab Avionics has signed an agreement with Microvision Inc to use the company’s Virtual Retinal Display technology for use in advanced aircraft simulation systems. Microvision, from Seattle, Washington, has a system which enables electronically- generated images to be projected onto the retina of the eye without the use of a screen. Ericsson Saab Avionics, a joint venture between Saab AB and LM Ericsson Telefon AB, will also investigate with Microvision how the technology could be developed for military aircraft and vehicles, weapon sighting systems and ground troop training.
