MicroTouch Systems Inc has introduced the TruePoint SpaceSaver monitor, designed for touch input, which uses a flat panel display from Sharp Electronics Corp and MicroTouch’s TouchPen technology, which enables pen input as well. It has been designed for point-of-sale, industrial and financial markets for use, often, by untrained people, so the critical controls for the display have been located behind the unit to ensure consistent system set-up. The company said the display head can be rotated with one hand, enabling each user to set it to his or her own viewing angle. The units can be wall-mounted or bolted to a counter. There is also a choice of plastic or metal monitor housing and the ability to plug directly into any VGA graphics board. There are two models, a 10.4 dual scan passive and a 10.4 active matrix display. Each has a flat panel display, backlight, video drive electronics, touch controller and power supply, with universal plugs for video, power, serial cables and the TouchPen stylus. Prices for the TruePoint SpaceSaver touch monitors begin at $2,325 for a dual scan passive colour; they are available immediately.
