The McLean, Virginia-based company has announced certification of its namesake version 8 BI platform to access MySQL and PostgreSQL databases. What this means is that the MicroStrategy 8 SQL engine can create optimized SQL for these two leading open source database systems.
The announcement broadens MicroStrategy’s support of open source systems and standards in BI. The company’s technology already runs on Linux operating systems, Apache/Tomcat web browsers, Mozilla Firefox browsers and the Pluto portal.
MicroStrategy isn’t the only BI vendor to target open source databases.
Rival Business Objects SA announced a technology/reseller partnership with MySQL in April 2005 to embed the open source database into its BI solutions. This partnership was expanded in December of 2005 to include MySQL.
However, MicroStrategy has stolen a lead with PostreSQL, which Business Objects only works with through partners like Netezza Corp.
Earlier this week, Sweden based MySQL AB closed an $18.5m round of series C funding.
