Microstrategy Inc has surrounded its core OLAP engine with a slew of new functions to support e-business, personalization features, portals and extranets in release 6.0 due today. Nothing has changed in the guts of the Microstrategy Server line, which the company says comprises the analysis (the Intelligence server), personalization (strategy.com) and broadcast (Broadcaster) servers. Instead the company has layered functionality on top. It believes it’s what its customers want and claims they will use its applications rather than third party software.

Developed for use with Intelligence Server 6.0 is InfoCenter, a portal said to enable companies to create personal locations for employees, suppliers and customers and to view services. It embraces some of the functionality of its Strategy.com ‘OLAP for the masses’ product which can customize data feeds according to individual profiles.

The new 6.0 cut is said to offer 75% to 100% better through-put. It costs $85,000 on NT. InfoCenter costs from $35,000. Telecaster (data to phone) and Broadcaster are priced from $35,000 and $105,000 respectively. á
