Microsoft Corp will finally take control of its most successful fun-and-games package with the acquisition by its consumer division of Bruce Artwick Organisation, the creator of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Most of the 30 or so employees of the Bruce Artwick group will make the trek to Microsoft offices in Seattle from their present base in Champaign, Illinois. Bruce Artwick clearly reckons it is finally time for him to cash in. He will not become a Microsoft employee but will continue to consult for the company. Microsoft reckons that Flight Simulator is the most successful entertainment title for personal computers with over 3m copies sold. It runs only under MS-DOS, but Microsoft now plans a Windows95 version.
