Microsoft wants people to watch as others play

Microsoft's latest technology will allow people to not only play video games against each other online, but to join the game as a spectator from anywhere in the world.

By CBR Staff Writer

The technology, which will be feature in Xbox 360 titles, will allow gamers to tune into a video game much as they would a sporting event broadcast. Microsoft believes that, for many gamers, watching other highly skilled players compete is as big an attraction as watching two football teams play and its new technology is aimed at taking advantage of that desire.

The technology will allow viewers to watch the event live, view highlights and instant replays, even manipulate the camera and freely roam around the gaming environment. Microsoft also revealed plans for a website that will contain schedules and information on gaming events, so that viewers can find the most popular games to watch.
