Microsoft Corp introduced version 6.0 of its Visual Basic rapid application development tool on Monday, highlighting new data access features supporting ODBC or OLE DB data sources, and additional database design tools for Oracle Corp and Microsoft SQL Server databases through the Visual Database Tools and Data Environment Designer additions. HTML and Dynamic HTML developments tools have also been integrated into the tool, and Microsoft says it’s also boosted performance through optimizations, simplified application deployment and debugging, and added support for Microsoft Server technologies. Visual Basic 6.0 will be available separately in Learning, Professional or Enterprise editions, or as part of the wider Visual Studio 6.0 set of developer tools announced a few week ago. It will be available along with Visual Studio, due to be launched officially on September 2. Pricing and upgrade policies will be announced then.
