Microsoft Corp yesterday formally launched Windows NT Workstation and Windows NT Server version 3.51, with support for PowerPC systems. It also now includes a tool to help customers manage Client Access Licences for Microsoft BackOffice and a utility that enables over-the-network installation of Windows95, with support for Windows 95-compatible applications, widely-used facsimile software, a replaceable Winlogon screen and additional devices including PCMCIA. Vendors planning to offer Windows NT on PowerPC machines include FirePower Systems Inc, IBM Corp, IPC Technologies, Motorola Computer Group and Reply Corp. Microsoft is promising desktop applications, development tools and business products for the PowerPC, including Excel and Word, the Visual C++ development system and Microsoft Test, and SNA Server. Pricing and packaging are as for version 3.5.
