Microsoft has topped the list of the UK’s most recognized brands in the latest UK Superbrands edition, a ranking survey from the Centre for Brand Analysis.

The tech gaint surpassed Google, which had claimed the first spot in 2008. The search engine company dropped to third place this year. Last year, Microsoft lost the first place to Google.

The ranking was calculated by using votes from 2,100 British consumers, alongside a panel of experts. A list of about 1,400 brands was considered by a panel of experts. The survey company was launched in 1995 and has operations in 55 countries.

The top 10 places included, three technology companies with Apple making its first entry into the top 10. Apple was placed ninth on the list.

Sony stood at 22nd while handset vendor Nokia occupied the 59th position. Other companies in the top 10 list include, Rolex, British Airways, BBC, Mercedes-Benz, Coca-Cola, Lego and Encyclopaedia Britannica.
