The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the industry’s biggest trade show, will feature the unveiling of Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii consoles. However, neither console will be launched until November 2006, giving Microsoft’s Xbox 360 a year’s head-start.
With 12 million Xboxes likely to sell this year, Microsoft is now expected to overtake industry-leading Sony. To maintain its lead, Microsoft is planning aggressive investment in the Xbox 360 over the next 12 months, and will preview its Halo 3 game at the E3 industry show.
Microsoft could even soon challenge Sony and Nintendo in the realm of handheld devices. The IT giant is thought to be preparing its own entry into a market currently led by the Game Boy Advance and PlayStationPortable.
