Microsoft Corp has tipped its hat at the PalmPilot market with the latest release of the Windows CE operating system. Redmond has added support for color displays, additional synchronization features and voice record/playback features in an attempt to outgun Palm Computing’s rival platform in the lucrative PDA market. Users can now browse web content offline and synchronize with Microsoft desktop apps such as Word and Outlook through Microsoft’s ActiveSync technology. A slew of PDA manufacturers such as Hewlett-Packard Co, Compaq Corp and Casio Corp have announced products based on the new Windows platform, which is already shipping to OEMs.
