DesktopStandard’s software is already integrated with Microsoft’s Group Policy technology that provides centralized management for PCs and users.

Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based DesktopStandard will continue operate as a subsidiary of Microsoft while its technology is being absorbed.

DesktopStandard’s co-founder Eric Voskuil will join the Redmond software giant’s Windows Enterprise management division as software architect.

This acquisition enhances our ability to meet customers’ needs to perform Group Policy lifecycle management, consolidate the number of policy objects being managed, and increase desktop management functionality, said Larry Orecklin, general manager, Microsoft’s windows enterprise management division, in a statement.

Under the terms of the deal, Microsoft has not acquired DesktopStandard’s PolicyMaker application security product line, which will be made available from BeyondTrust Corp, a former unit of DesktopStandard.
