Doug Burgum, who leads the Microsoft Business Solutions division, will be replaced by another Satya Nadella, a corporate VP who has worked at Microsoft since 1992.

The move is somewhat anticipated, as Burgum announced last November his intent to leave the Redmond, Washington-based software giant. At that time, Burgum said he would stay on as chairman of the division. He has now decided to leave the company altogether in June next year.

Burgum joined Microsoft five years ago through the $1.1bn stock-acquisition of Great Plains Software Inc, where he served as CEO. It was Microsoft’s first big move into the specialized SMB applications space.

Microsoft has since re-launched its SMB product-line under the Dynamics brand. It also plans to deliver more of these applications as a service over the Internet.

Microsoft’s Business Solutions division reported a $24m operating profit in its last fiscal year, ended June 30. The previous year the division lost $171m.
