Microsoft Corp wants us to make it clear that its deal with General Magic Inc last week did not involve it licensing the company’s Serengeti, but rather some other technology, the identity of which neither company would divulge. General Magic would not say whether or not the technology is available yet either. Meanwhile, it turns out that Microsoft got 11.9% of General Magic when it injected $6m into the Sunnyvale, California company. The companies would not disclose the size of the stake at the time, but it has since been revealed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing from Microsoft. The filing says that Redmond purchased 3.6 million shares but that the $6m payment also included licensing fees for General Magic’s technology, whatever that may be.
