Microsoft Corp and PictureTel Corp are jointly submitting their application sharing protocol to the International Telecommunications Union for consideration as an extension to the T.120 standard. While T.120 already has provision for whiteboard conferencing, it currently does not allow cross-system application sharing. The two companies have already implemented the protocol within their offerings, Microsoft’s NetMeeting (CI No 2,930), and PictureTel’s LiveShare Plus data conferencing software (CI No 2,929). Other firms supporting the proposal include DataBeam Corp, Farallon Communications Inc, Intel Corp, Xerox Corp’s LiveWorks Inc subsidiary, MCI Communications Corp (through its networkMCI Conferencing system), OnLive Technologies Inc, OutReach Technologies Inc, PolyCom Inc, VTEL Corp and White Pine Software Inc.
