The forces ranged against Microsoft Corp seem to be gathering, and following the revelations that Novell Inc is mulling a legal challenge to the company’s hegemony (CI No 2,061), Computer Reseller News reports that WordPerfect Corp, Orem, Utah is now thinking about dusting off its long-standing complaints against Microsoft and turning them into an anti-trust action if the US Federal Trade Commission doesn’t decide to act soon. Like Novell, WordPerfect is said to have legal heavyweights on its team. Meanwhile, Novell chairman Ray Noorda is said to be circulating a letter among industry executives asking them to be expert witnesses in the Trade Commission case against Microsoft. Many are, not surprisingly, afraid of getting on Microsoft’s blacklist, and will co-operate only under subpoena rather than appear to volunteer any information.
