MOM 2005 is part of Microsoft’s Dynamic Systems Initiative (DSI), and permits administrators to view the health of network-connected PCs and servers proactively using a series of alerts.
Alerts are generated in response to certain events, and help administrators to monitor and forecast load balancing and bandwidth restrictions. Alerts can feed into MOM 2005’s new Operations Console and administrators can take advantage of automated scripted problems and build-in prescriptive guidance.
Also featured is the MOM Connector Framework (MCF), a web-services-based technology to connect MOM to third-party management platforms. Connectors for IBM Corp’s Tivoli and Computer Associates Inc’s Unicenter were announced last October.
Support from, and interoperability with, third-party add-ins is expected to be a key part of MOM 2005.
