According to the company, the features of new service pack 1 (SP1) includes local continuous replication (CLR) and cluster continuous replication. The company also added Standby Continuous Replication (SCR), which allows replication between geographically dispersed areas. Data can be copied on to multiple locations on standby and can be instantly switched over if the primary email server fails, the company claimed.
Furthermore, the company claimed that the SP1 will support Windows Server 2008 and does not require a single subnet for high availability (HA). It also supports IPv6 on Windows Server 2008. ActiveSync in SP1 adds support for new ActiveSync policies for synchronization, authentication, and encryption and increased from 16 policies in Exchange 2007 (non-SP1) to 28 policies. Exchange Server includes single security module from many security firms, which supports multiple scanning engines. However, SP1 does not support automatic replication of the data.
According to the company, Exchange Server 2007 SP1 can be integrated with Office Communications Server, with the ability to move voice mail between the two applications and control a greater variety of mobile devices.
Microsoft said that it has more than 3,000 enterprise customers, representing more than a million users working on Exchange Server 2007. The new service pack was released for beta testing in August 2007. Last month, during the announcement of service pack one for Exchange server 2007, the company also launched unified communications software such as Office Communications Server 2007, Office Communicator 2007, and Office Live Meeting.
