Shipments of Microsoft NT servers to India are expected to go up to 17,000 in 1999. Microsoft shipped about 10,000 NT servers and grew by 80% in 1997 over 1996. Against this, Novell Netware shipments in 1997 were 14,500. In 1997-98 Netware installations went down to 9,700 in a server operating system market growing at the rate of 15%. The volume is expected to come from so-called small-to medium-sized enterprises. The total IT investment of this sector in the country is 21%, according to the latest IDC report. Microsoft has about 1,200 resellers for NT in India.
