Microsoft Corp is pretty pleased with its new QuickBasic 4.0, calling it a revolutionary product that combines the best features of both a compiler and interpreter by using a technology never before available on a microcomputer: it includes user-defined records, program outlining, integration with the Microsoft CodeView debugger, and compatiblity with other Microsoft languages; Records finally give Basic both structured data and code, and outlining lets you organise and reorganise multi-module Basic programs, says chairman Bill Gates, who also describes Basic as one of two core Microsoft products, alongside MS-DOS – For years people have thought that Basic was for beginners, and after they mastered it they would have to go on to a more powerful language but with Microsoft QuickBasic 4.0, Basic becomes a serious development tool; no price or delivery given.
