Microsoft Corp’s Pegasus answer to its embarrassing Network Computer operating environment (CI No. 2,991) is due to be launched next Monday as Windows CE, for Consumer Electronics PC Week hears. Companies expected to launch Windows CE devices include Casio Computer Corp, Compaq Computer Corp, Hewlett-Packard Co, LG Electronics Inc, NEC Technologies Inc, and Philips Electronics Inc’s Philips Consumer Electronics Corp, but it is not clear on what processors it will run: embedded iAPX-86-compatible CPUs seem certain but NEC Corp, Philips Semiconductor and Hitachi Ltd are said to have 32-bit processors that will run it. Devices should be $500 to $1,000.
