The company now expects to have the rejigged Office code ready by year’s end, with a launch in early 2007. In March, the company said the release date would be in January to coincide with the upcoming Windows Vista operating system.

Based on internal testing and beta 2 feedback around product performance, we are revising our development schedule to deliver the 2007 Microsoft Office system by the end of year 2006, with broad general availability in early 2007, said a Microsoft spokesperson via email.

Feedback on quality and performance will ultimately determine the exact dates.

Microsoft said the delay would not involve Windows Vista. Our target dates for availability remain the same, said the spokesperson. Ultimately, the final exact delivery dates will be determined based on quality.
