Furthermore, more than 172,000 people are said to have downloaded recently released add-on content for MechAssault, comprising a couple of new mechs and maps. This release is seen as a precursor to premium Live content, which will rely on the service’s micropayments system to accumulate extra revenue.
However, it’s not clear if the latest Live subscription figures include the legions of gamers across Europe who have already signed up to the ‘Test Drive’ phase of Xbox, which has been running since November. Despite much fanfare for the four-month free use test period which guarantees a year’s subscription from March 14th, including one recent press release drenched in creative statistics and handsome vox pops, Microsoft still hasn’t revealed how many European gamers have signed up so far.
Does Microsoft plan to claim these Test Drive users as part of the Xbox Live so far press release we’ll all be sent on or around March 21st? Would it really be that out of character? We’ll see.
