Sources at Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft say that select purchase order and cash flow management software developed by Encore Business Solutions Inc, a Winnipeg, Manitoba-based software firm, will now be offered as a core part of the Great Plains suite.

Previously Microsoft sold the Encore software modules under a special license agreement.

Microsoft expects to release version 8 of Great Plains this summer. As a result of absorbing Encore’s technology, this version will likely include new encumbrance (purchase orders for goods not provided or performed) and grant management capabilities.

Microsoft officials also say it will add other Encore functionality to Great Plains’ to enrich the suite’s inter-company, requisition management, and payables management components.

The integration should not be much of a problem since both set of technologies were developed on a similar code base using the same tools.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
