Microsoft Corp has made some key appointments to its Office 2000 and Windows development teams. Steven Sinofsky becomes vice president of Microsoft Office development, with responsibility for Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint. He reports to Jon DeVaan, vice president of desktop applications. Sinofsky has worked on three generations of the Office product and was a founding member of the Microsoft Foundation Classes team. He recently helped Bill Gates in coordinating technical strategy across the full Microsoft product line. Brian Valentine will become vice president of Windows development, reporting to Jim Allchin, senior vice president of the personal and business systems group. Valentine takes on the management of the design and development of the Windows 2000 operating system and associated infrastructure products such as Proxy Server and Systems Management Server. Valentine previously managed the design and development of Microsoft Exchange from its launch.
