MICROSOFT AND PC DOCS TO SET UP LEGAL FILING SYSTEM

By CBR Staff Writer

Microsoft has formed an alliance with PC DOCS Group International Inc to promote an electronic legal system that will eventually link law firms to courts and to each other, according to a Reuters report. Choice Information Systems Inc and Focus Systems are also part of the deal. The plan is that Microsoft, Choice and PC DOCS will set up electronic filing systems in courts throughout the US, using Choice’s software. Focus Systems has a legal management application built on Microsoft’s BackOffice Small Business Server that will integrate with the systems, allowing virtually any law firm access to electronic filing. Choice’s Sustain product provides a direct link between lawyers and courts. Documents can be filed directly into each firm’s PC DOCS system, allowing attorneys to immediately access documents using search and retrieval capabilities.
